Meet Pholus: the new single-seater by Centaurus Racing

On Saturday, July 12th, the event presenting Centaurus Racing’s new single-seater car was hosted at the Exhibition Hall of the Municipality of Volos and was a great success. Attendees ranged from professors of the University of Thessaly, who are among the team’s strongest supporters, to friends and relatives of team members, as well as local residents interested in motorsports and Centaurus Racing’s work. All gathered to honor the dedication, passion, and hard work of the team.

Now in its 16th year of operation, the team completed the construction of its 11th single-seater and its first electric-powered car this year. The unveiling of Pholus was the highlight of the evening, but the team also took the opportunity to review last season’s achievements and the successes of their previous gasoline-powered car. Additionally, they provided a clear and thorough explanation of the process involved in building a formula-type single-seater like this.

The team’s accomplishments this year would not have been possible without the support of its sponsors, who contributed in various ways, whether through material or financial sponsorship, to the creation of Pholus. Special thanks were extended to the Heracles Group, a steadfast supporter of the project. The team expressed its gratitude not only by renaming itself “Centaurus Racing powered by Heracles” but also by naming the new single-seater after the mythology of Heracles and his closest companion.

It is also worth mentioning Lazarou Bros for their unwavering faith and dedication to the team from day one, Navios Maritime Partners L.P., a new sponsor that believes in the vision and capabilities of the student members, and the University of Thessaly, which continues to support and understand the challenges of this project. Last but not least, the contributions of local businesses should not be overlooked, as they helped complete the event by sponsoring equipment, as well as a variety of savory and sweet treats and refreshments.

Following the event and the presentation of Pholus, Centaurus Racing is not resting but preparing to excel in upcoming competitions. The team will depart in early August for the competition in the Czech Republic, marking its 5th consecutive year of participation. This will be followed by their first appearance in Croatia at the Bugatti Rimac Test Track, and in mid-August, they will make a strong comeback at the most demanding competition in Germany. Their final stop will be the first competition held in their home country at the Serres Racing Circuit.

Good luck to Centaurus Racing and their first electric car!
