The Agrifood Sector is Evolving — and Women are playing a central role in this transformation.
The University of Thessaly, in conjunction with the Vice-Rector of Innovation, Internationalization, Collaborations and Digital Governance, as well as the Head of One Planet Thessaly – Innovation and Technology Transfer Unit and Entrepreneurship Center, Professor Chrysi Laspidou, underscores the significant role of women in the agrifood sector through its participation in the EWA 2025 (Empowering Women in Agrifood) program. This initiative is organized by EIT Food in partnership with the organization A Woman Can Be.
The EWA 2025 program is currently being implemented across 13 European countries, namely Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Albania, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Poland, and Estonia. The program aims to empower women in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) who possess innovative ideas or are in the early stages of establishing their agrifood startups, specifically those founded from 2022 onwards. This initiative contributes to economic growth as outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8) and fosters innovation in accordance with Sustainable Development Goal 9 (SDG 9).
Selected participants will receive:
✅6 months of support, including online training & personalized mentoring
✅ Networking opportunities with investors, experts, and entrepreneurs
✅ The chance to win monetary awards:
🏆 10,000€ for the 1st prize winner
🥈5,000€ for the 2nd prize winner
In order to promote and elucidate the objectives of the EWA 2025 program, as well as to assist in the preparation of robust applicants, the University of Thessaly is hosting an open information event:

During the event, attendees will learn about:
- The eligibility criteria
- The benefits of participating
- How to submit a strong application for the final competition.
The event will feature presentations by industry experts and accomplished alumni of the program, in addition to providing practical guidance for developing a persuasive application.
Individuals who identify as professionals, researchers, producers, startup founders, or women possessing a vision and passion for agrifood innovation are encouraged to seize this opportunity. This event aims to inspire, educate, and facilitate connections among women who are effecting change within the sector.
